The differences between logo design & brand design.

There is a common misconception that ‘logo design’ and ‘brand design’ are one and the same. So what makes them different? I’ve put together a list of the most important differences between these two projects to help reshape how you look at the visual components of your business.

  1. Logo design is just that, a logo.

In a logo design project, you are usually only paying for one thing. A logo. This is often an affordable first step for entrepreneurs as they look to build their business. A logo design project with an experienced graphic designer will often include the development of a primary logo and supporting logos and icons for different uses throughout your marketing.

  2. Brand design covers everything visual about your brand.

Brand design is an all-encompassing term that refers to all of the visual components of your brand. This includes but is not limited to:

    1. Logo Design

    2. Color Palette Selection

    3. Typography - The fonts you should use for your business

    4. Photography Aesthetic - Moody, bright, dramatic, mellow, the list goes on.

    5. Textural Elements - This includes paper stocks and other textiles that are appropriate for your brand.

    6. Packaging Design

    7. Branded Collateral - Business cards, stationery, flyers, etc.

It’s always important to understand what you are paying for when entering into a design project of any nature, but especially brand design. Be sure to ask questions to ensure you and your designer are on the same page about your project.
